Five Reasons for Circular Saw Blade Abrasion

During the circular saw blade using process, you would notice that it would be worn down gradually, at this time, have you considered such question that which factors will accelerate such damage? In the article below, I will discuss the topic of saw blade abrasion.

Firstly, mechanical abrasion. When cutting and sawing process, the cut material will lead to different degrees scratching on saw blade surface because of rub. In general, the lower hardness proportion between cut material and saw blade, the easier abrasion of saw blade. Therefore if you want to avoid such abrasion, you have to improve the hardness of saw blade so as to improve its wear resistance.

Secondly, cementation abrasion, when cutting and sawing plastic materials, because of low strength of particle, saw blade is easy to be damaged at its front parts.

Thirdly, diffusion abrasion. Under the high temperature for cutting and sawing, the metal elements contained between slaw blade and cut materials will diffuse reciprocally. As a result, the physical property of saw blade and its mechanical property will be reduced to aggravate the abrasion. In fact, diffusion abrasion can be considered as one of chemical abrasion. In order to improve saw blade’s wear resistance and heat resistance, you can add some annexing agents such as titanium carbide or tantalum carbide into cemented carbide saw blade, which is helpful to improve the diffusion temperature.

Fourthly, phase transition abrasion. Because of different raw materials for circular saw blade production, if the heat treatment technology is not very good or its body is too thin, during the high speeding cutting and sawing process, circular saw blade will be damaged aggravatingly because itself temperature exceeds the phase transition temperature. For example, if the temperature is about 100 Celsius degree, common steel will be resulted in phase transition, if the temperature is between 300 Celsius degree and 350 Celsius degree, alloy steel will be resulted in phase transition and if the between 500 Celsius degree and 600 Celsius degree, high-speed steel will be resulted in phase transition.

Fifth, oxidation abrasion. As is known to all, oxidation abrasion is one kind of chemical abrasion. If the rub temperature is about 800 Celsius degree or even more, the oxygen gas in air will lead to oxidizing reaction with cobalt, tungsten carbide, titanium carbide and so on, all of which are contained in circular saw blade. With such oxidizing reaction, saw blade will be damaged gradually.
