According to the news from Britain, Mattel, well known for its Barbie, bought Hit Entertainment: a children media group that owns the famous toys brands such as Thomas locomotive and Bob the Builder. This Mattel’s acquisition was also the largest one since 2000.

Mattel is one of the largest toys dealers and distributors around the world and Barbie is its most well know brand. On the other hand, Hit Entertainment has the famous children toys brands such as Bob the Builder and Thomas locomotive. In addition, the animation named Thomas & Friends contributes almost 80 percent of the company’s total profit.

Apax Partners, European largest private placement investing fund, suffer a minor loss from its investment on Hit Entertainment. Therefore, in March this year, Hit Entertainment started its sailing bid.

It is estimated that this acquisition would be finished in the year of 2012. Some presses hold the opinion that this acquisition would bring stronger influence for Mattel in the areas of Latin-America and Asia. Especially in China, the world’s largest developing country, Thomas locomotive has become the most famous toys for the pre-school boys.

However, it is still unknown whether this merge could bring benefits for these two big toys companies.
