The Use of Color Perceptual Feature in Interior Space Design

Color’s perceptual feature refers to some physiological property human being’s emotional effects and the imagination on the objective things.

Sensation of temperature: When people see red, orange and purple, they always associated them with the sun and flame. In psychology, it gives us a sense of warmth. The color that gives us a sense of warmth is named warm color; on the other hand, when people see cyan, green and blue, it’s easily to associate them with ocean, sky and green shade, and also in psychology, it gives us a sense of cold, the color that gives people a sense of cold is named cool color. In that way, the feature that color can give people a sense of warmth and cold is called color’s sensation of temperature.

Sense of fatigue: The stronger the purity of color, the stronger the stimulus was produced, and this would make people feel tired easily. Generally speaking, the warmth color makes people feel tired much easier than the cool color. It’s because that with many hues together, the huge difference between lightness difference and chroma difference makes people feel tired easily.

Emotionality: Color’s emotional effect takes an important role in interior design. Not only can it beauty the life, waken passion, boost health, but also it can adjuvant cure diseases, which has been widely used in designing houses, classrooms and hospitals. For example, pink green was used in wards to relieve the patients’ fatigues, calm down the patients and increase their confidence.
